ANOTHER EXPERIMENT BY WOMEN FILM FESTIVAL (aka AXWFF) GIVES WOMEN’S WORK a REAL TIME & SPACE in NYC in 2011!
AXWFF promotes and screens women’s experimental films that feature alternative forms and/or that represent themes and issues distinct to women and girls, with the hope to inspire others to make and hone their own experimental work to be shared with others in a public forum.
With help from a 2011 grant from the Manhattan Community Arts Fund ( http://www.lmcc.net/grants/mcaf ) given through The Lower Manhattan Cultural Council ( http://www.lmcc.net ) expeerimental films by women will be presented in ANOTHER EXPERIMENT BY WOMEN FILM FESTIVAL (aka AXWFF). We strive to help this community grow and we invite you to participate in our venture.
In the summer of 2010, in coordination with EYE:AM Women Behind the Lens, a call was put out on Flicker Hi-Beam and Experimental Cinema for women to participate in their own experimental film festival. The submissions yielded content for the First Festival Screening in 2010; along with six other shows of different works, all of which were screened at Anthology Film Archives in New York City during the NEW FILMMAKERS Women’s Nights in 2011 ( http://www.newfilmmakers.com )
Our Second Festival presented 2 different screenings at NYC’s first original experimental screening center, Millennium Film Workshop on November 5 , 2011 along with a panel discussion led by Lili White that included 8 participating and international filmmakers. We wanted to have 3 screenings in the Festival of 2011, but due to financial constraints, could not do so at the November 5 Show.
Instead, we will run the 3rd MISSING SCREENING SHOW of the AXWFFestival on March 13, 2012 at Anthology Film Archives in New York City at 7:15.
We hope to see you there! After the screening we will meet at a local establishment for discussion, and conversation.
In addition, AXWFF will screen several shows of women’s work in 2012 as part of the NEW FILMMAKERS WOMEN’S NIGHT at Anthology Film Archives in New York City. TIMES & DATES will be forthcoming — next show is May 23….
PLEASE JOIN OUR MAILING LIST for further notices. After each screening we will meet at a local establishment for discussion, and conversation.
We are looking for volunteers to help with writing, design, advertising, fundraising and other important tasks. Please contact us to find out more.
